Social media was on fire recently after it was announced that popular chip brand Lay’s had discontinued their salt and vinegar flavour – a firm favourite of their customers.
The brand manager for Lay’s appeared on Jacaranda FM’s Breakfast with Martin Bester to explain why they did this.
It all started with a tweet:
@LaysSouthAfrica Have you discontinued the Salt & Vinegar flavour. Can’t seem to find it anywhere for the last few weeks now

Lay’s brand manager Wesley Chetty joined Jacaranda FM’s Breakfast with Martin Bester to explain the decision.
“We did our research and sometimes flavours do not perform – and we had to discontinue the flavour. We have to listen to our customers and we made the decision,” he said.
“Lightly salted is our number one flavour. Caribbean Onion and Balsamic Vinegar is our second-best flavour.”
So there you have it. So long, salt and vinegar Lay’s. It was great while it lasted.
