Hello people peeps!
Am I dreaming?
I woke up this morning, March 30, to a day that was supposed to be our print deadline. I’ve never missed a deadline in my entire 27-year career – but it looks like there really is a first time for everything, because I’ve missed this one. Talk about a reality check!
Our current reality? The 21-day Coronavirus lockdown means that our magazine will not be going to print this week. Or the next. Or the next one after that!
Of course the lockdown is completely necessary – not only for the health of my team and the employees of our printing and distribution companies, but for their families too, as well as that of the entire nation. We must take this lockdown seriously, because the health and safety of staff is a top priority to the Caxton group – as it should be for every company out there.
That doesn’t change the fact that it feels like we’re living in a dream, though. Or, perhaps more aptly, a disaster film! The world is on lockdown – and one of the important things to remember is that we have no control over this situation. So, let go of any thoughts of plans you might have had for the next month or two – 21st birthday parties, weddings and overseas trips will all have to be postponed. But there have always been things in life that we have no control over. This is just one of those, but on a larger scale. Try not to get angry or frustrated, as hard as that might be. Accept the situation we are in and let’s make the most of it; spring – or is that autumn? – clean your house, do you daily exercises – try to stay in your routine as much as possible. Appreciate this downtime with your family (or away from them, as the case may be!), and take in the small things, like blooming flowers and gorgeous sunsets. We will get through this. We just need to listen to the experts and authorities and stay safe.
While we may not be on the shelves in print, the show will go on, and we’ll be keeping our website and social media platforms updated for all the latest breaking news, recipes, puzzles, fashion and beauty and – my favourite – real life stories. And because we know this is a difficult time, we’re offering you a 70% discount on a once-off copy of our latest issue! Our sister titles are also running promotions, so click on the link below to take advantage of that offer.
From all of us at people magazine, we wish you all the very best during this difficult time, and we will be back soon! But for now, see you on the web!
