91.9FM’s Call To Help PurrPaws After Fire

A sectionof PurrPaws, an animal shelter in the Vaal area run by Lindie van Rooyen, tragically burnt down last night, January 30, 2019.

Sadly, 30 dogs were lost to the fire, reportedly all special needs dogs. Lindie was also admitted to hospital for smoke inhalation as she tried to save her animals.

Hot 91.9’s Breakfast Team, Mansfield In the Morning said they were ‘contacted by concerned listeners about this crisis situation urging them to step in immediately to assist the shelter at this critical time’.

“When we arrived at work this morning, our listeners informed us of what had happened, and even though the shelter is outside our broadcast area, in a crisis situation, we step in and do the right thing, and that is to help”

The SPCA and SAPS were on the scene to assist in the rescue of the remaining 800 animals and relocating them to temporary shelters. Many Gauteng animal shelters have assisted by taking in the remaining animals and are also appealing for the public to help Lindie and Purrpaws.

The most urgent needs are pet food, bedding, bowls and funding to rebuild the shelter. The Team are appealing to all corporates to dig deep to assist Purrpaws and contribute wherever they can.
