Black Friday: Yay or Nay?

Black Friday, a phenomenon that started out in the US following their Thanksgiving holiday,  has caught on around the world, and has consumers camping outside stores overnight, stampeding the doors as they open and even fighting each other for reduced goods.

In some countries bargains are to be found everywhere with goods being reduced to almost nothing. Websites cannot take the strain of the online rush and frequently crash. Here in SA, some businesses are more conservative with stores offering 20% percent off, or a only a small number of goods drastically reduced.

While there are bargains to be found, financial experts warn of buying unnecessary items and getting into debt, as people get caught up in the excitement. Yet year after year, the popularity of the day only seems to grow.

So if you had a choice, what do you think would serve the SA consumer better?

  • Cheaper prices all year round.
  • Big bargains on Black Friday once a year
