5 Eye Care Tips

By Angela Bekiaris

September 21 to October 18 marked Eye Care Awareness Month. How well do you take care of your eyes? We share some tips to help you out, avoiding eye infections or more serious conditions in future.
Eat Well: Eating healthily, as we know, helps overall health. But did you even realise how much your diet could affect your beautiful eyes? You need nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, zinc and vitamins C and E to ward off age-related vision problems like cataracts and macular degeneration. Start filling up on foods like spinach, kale, and collards, salmon, tuna, eggs, nuts, beans, oranges, oysters and pork.
Quit Smoking: Smoking makes you more likely to get cataracts and macular degeneration.
Always Wear Sunglasses: The right ones, which will help protect your eyes from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays – too much UV exposure is dangerous.
Use Safety Eyewear: If you use hazardous or airborne materials on the job or at home, you must wear safety glasses or protective goggles.
Rest Your Eyes From The Screen: TV, computers, phone – too much screen time could cause eyestrain, blurry vision, dry eyes, headaches, or neck, back, and shoulder pain.
