Good Hair Keeping

KEEPING hair from breaking can be a full time job. It’s something that all of us have had to deal with at one time or other. Although unavoidable and annoying, it can be helped with some preventative measures. And good news, you can still keep your day job! Follow our five simple tips to complete breakage-freedom.

  1. Deep Condition Regularly

DEEP conditioning hair adds an extra boost of moisture and helps to prevent breakage. It’s a preventable measure, so when styling, washing and manipulating hair, there is as little damage as possible. Incorporate it weekly into your haircare routine.

  1. Don’t Detangle Wet

HAIR is its most fragile when wet, but hair that’s completely dry is brittle too. Highly textured curly hair that tangles easily needs to be lightly misted and gently detangle with a wide tooth comb before cleansing. Or better yet, shampoo in plaits or jumbo twists to prevent tangles and breakage.

  1. Loosen Up

PROTECTIVE styles (including braids, weave, etc.) are great options for those who want to encourage hair growth, protect the ends of the hair strands, reduce knots and tangles or simply don’t always have time for styling. But, if left for too long, they can add tension to the hair fibre leading to breakage. Give hair a break every few weeks or months, depending on your chosen style.

  1. Respect The Scalp

A healthy scalp often translates to healthy hair. Cleansing the scalp (at least biweekly) and keeping it moisturised can prevent irritation and hair loss. Grease on the scalp can clog pores and hair follicles, which makes it difficult for water and other moisturisers to penetrate, which can result in breakage.

  1. Give Your Ends Extra TLC

BEING the oldest part of your hair, ends need a little bit of extra attention to keep them in tip top shape. Whenever moisturizing hair, make sureto distribute product from ends to roots.
