Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Joburg 2017
By Temba Msiza: Fashion lovers from in and around Joburg gathered at this year’s glamorous Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Joburg 2017 (#MBFWJ17) from August 17-19, 2017, held at the Mall of Africa.
The fashion week was organised by Africa Fashion International, in collaboration with Mercedes Benz. Featuring the theme #RootedinSyle, it aimed to encourage young people to celebrate and embrace their individual sense of style and Africanness.
#MBFWJ17 offered all designers, established and newcomers, a platform to showcase their work. The collections showcased 44 local and international designers’ summer/spring collections for 2017.
Africa Fashion International prides itself in growing young and talented designers using the AFI’s FastTrack platform, which was set up to help establish designers by offering them mentorships, media exposure and business knowledge.
“Fashion Week is primarily about promoting designers to consumers, buyers and media. The goal is to attract sales for designers and engagement for sponsors,” said Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, AFI Founder and CEO.
