Day 3: SS18 SAFW Recap

Lets have a look at Day 3 of SAFW SS18! It was a night full of surprises and glam!!

Black coffee is known for his use of fabrics in a way that goes beyond adornment. The engineering in his garments were incredible. We loved everything about this collection, the use of colour, shapes, cut-outs and textures.  The sharp structural designs with the combination of soft and hard fabrics worked perfectly well together. It didn’t look overwhelming, it’s fierce, bold and strong! Geometrics is always predominant in his collections and you will never see something that’s the same, the pieces are always different, eye-catching and extremely high fashion.  We also loved that although the pieces were extremely high fashion and what would look incredible in editorials, items from his collection would work perfect to wear during the day.

The constructionist Clive Rundle, proved once again that intricate structures are the driving force of his brand.

Two major collaborations created excitement at SAFW, Gert-Johan Coetzee teamed up with McDonalds and Rubicon teamed up with Appletiser to crown a magical fashion moment. Gert-Johan is never one that shies away from risque and over the top looks. Fabrics and patterns you wouldn’t think twice to use as part of construction, Gert does it and he does it well! This year he collaborated with McDonalds and we were excited as whenever he collaborates with brands, he goes over and beyond and pushes anyone that isn’t a fan of the brand to be a fan. His collection had elements of art, haute couture and edge. This collection made noise on the runway, there was movement and the creativity was mind-blowing. Who would’ve thought McDonalds could be glammed up for the “Oscars”!

Nomzamo Mbatho closed the show in a rich red gown that featured detailing of the “M” sign of Mcdonalds. Rubicon oozes elegance and class so it was nothing but that when her collection walked the runway. She manipulated the popular ruffle and frill trend in different and new ways that will compliment any women’s figure. If we didn’t know about the collaboration with Appletiser, we wouldn’t think they collaborated but once we knew about it and saw her pieces, we could see the Appletiser inspiration in her garments.

The night ended with the new winners of the 2017 New Talent Search winners, Mmuso Maxwell.

Fashion Editor I am a stylist and have worked with many celebrities. Magazines are a great platform to inform people on styling and fashion trends. Fashion gives freedom to people and allows them to be who they want to be. I loves to help readers to look as stylish as they can be, regardless of their body type, skin colour etc. It’s a great feeling to have knowing, that in helping someone choose an outfit, you’re also helping them feel more confident. When I'm not busy being a fashion editor I can be found designing and drawing.
