Beauty Blunder No. 1: Squeezing Pimples

Beauty Blunder No. 1 Squeezing Pimples

DR. Maureen Allem, founder and medical director at Skin Renewal, takes us back to basics and talks about the biggest beauty blunder we all commit – squeezing our pimples.

Call them zits, pimples, acne or blemishes – at some point in our lives, most people get them, and when they do make their appearance, it seems like natural instinct to want to get rid of them as fast as possible. This causes us to pick or squeeze our pimples, and even though we know not to do so, we can’t seem to help ourselves. Dr. Maureen Allem, founder and medical director at Skin Renewal, warns that this behaviour only results in blemishes being noticeable for much longer than necessary. In some cases it can leave a red or dark mark or even form a scar on the surface of the skin. Caring for your pimples requires a gentle hand, with special care being taken.

For the correct treatment of breakouts and extraction of pimples, it is recommended to visit a skincare therapist. Therapists are trained to extract pimples without damaging or bruising the skin. They are further trained to assure that the area is kept clean and avoid cross contamination. The fluid found in pimples can cause further breakouts if not treated carefully.
