British group, The xx, have recently announced that they will be releasing a brand new album in 2017. The record, titled ‘I See You’ drops everywhere on the 13th of January and marks a new era for the band – both sonically and in terms of process. The album was recorded between March 2014 and August 2016 in New York, Marfa TX, Reykjavik, Los Angeles and London, and is characterised by a more outward-looking, open and expansive approach. Now, as they prepare for the release of their third studio album, the group have released the record’s lead single ‘On Hold’.
The track is a fantastic reintroduction to the group and serves as a fantastic lead single signifying the change in direction the band has taken. The track has interesting electronic elements to it and it’s great to see how much the group has grown over the past few years.
The group has also released an epic video for the track which sees them perform alongside American teenagers. “We have a lot of love and respect for the people of the USA, having played hundreds of shows across the country over the past years,” the group said of their video. “We hope this video reflects just some of the warmth and acceptance we have encountered there.” The song is an awesome introduction to the group’s new sound and we’re really excited to hear where they take it.
