Jam of the Day: Rouge – Mbongo-Zaka (Feat. Moozlie)

HIP-HOP is one of the biggest genres in the local music industry at the moment and while we have the guys who are doing a fantastic job, there are more and more girls proving that hip-hop in South Africa has some incredible female rappers as well. One of the women who has been doing a great job is Rouge. Although she is still an up-and-coming artist, she hopes that will finally change with the release of her new single Mbongo-Zaka which features fellow female rapper Moozlie.

Surprisingly, her voice reminds us a lot of Gwen Stefani on the chorus and Rouge proves that she is a forced to be reckoned with. The track has some of the best lyrical content in the local hip-hop space at the moment. Rouge is setting the bar really high. This is the first single from the rapper that has made us step back and realise that she means business. Her flow is fire and it’s clear that a lot of blood, sweat and tears went into this song.

Moozlie also adds a sick rap which adds another special element to the song and someone Rogue enjoyed working with. “Nomuzi is simply amazing, she brings a uniqueness and originality that really inspires me. We were able to bounce ideas off each and create music I honestly believe will resonate with everyone on the continent. Listen to her verse on the track, her work speaks for itself.” Rouge has proven that she has what it takes to be one of the best rappers out of South Africa and we can’t wait to see how her career develops after dropping this smash.
