Jam of the Day: GOODLUCK x YOUNOTUS – The Open Sea

Local electronic act, GOODLUCK, have released some incredible music over the past few years. Their latest album, ‘The Nature Within’, spawned hits such as ‘Thinking About You’, ‘Find Me In The Forest’ and ‘Back In The Day’. Now, GOODLUCK has chosen their YOUNOTUS-assisted single ‘The Open Sea’ as the fourth single off the record.

The track is a fan-favourite off the album and an obvious choice for the next single. Goodluck has always been a group which creates music to both party and relax to and ‘The Open Sea’ is a perfect example of this. The tropical-influenced dance track has a very chilled demeanour to it. The beats are subtle, the vocals are soothing but the instrumental chorus packs a punch which is set to light dancefloors around the world alight. The production on the song is incredible and is on par with the biggest dance tracks at the moment. The song hits the nail on the head when it comes to international dance music trends and GOODLUCK is the first local act to pull off such a feat.

The song comes hot off the heels of GOODLUCK’s massive summer tour which saw them play in major cities around the country as well as their Get Lucky Summer residency in Plettenberg Bay. “I haven’t worked with two guys where our production language was so in sync,” producer Ben Peters says on working with German group YOUNOTUS. “We were able to focus in on the music. It was really cool to work with them in a studio in Berlin. The talent is intense. They really pushed me as a producer to try and up my game and I think it’s something everyone should do – push themselves outside of their comfort zone.” Lead singer Juliet Harding adds that “It’s a really cool pop track – the poppiest song track I’ve written on the album in terms of structure and lyrics. It’s a love song in a weird way. It’s about wanting to get to know someone better.” The song is set to be one of GOODLUCK’s biggest releases off ‘The Nature Within’.
