5 easy steps to decorate your Christmas tree

Christmas – we know what it’s all about: Family, friends, food and festivities. At the centre of all of this, though, is the Christmas tree. There are few things that can take your breath away (and score you major points with the in-laws and friends alike) but a beautifully decked out tree sure can.

This year, Cadbury left us an even sweeter treat than usual – an invite to a Christmas tree and table decorating masterclass and the unveiling of their new line of festive treats that the whole family can enjoy. So if stressing about perfectly decorated evergreen feels like (tree) a root canal, then worry not – we’ve got 5 top tips that that’ll make your friends green with envy at your mad deco skills!

Step One: Start With The Sparkle

Once you’ve untangled the strands of lights that you bunched up and packed away last year, here’s the secret to a beautifully illuminated tree: Don’t go round and round – go up and down! It’s true. Running the lights from North (pole) to South and then around the tree, nestled in towards the trunk, will ensure that every branch is twinkling with light. And there you have it!

Step Two: Get Down To Tinseltown

Professionally known as ‘garlands’, all you need for this step is tinsel and ribbon in the colour scheme of your choice. With the tinsel, start at the top of the tree and, in a zigzag pattern, work your way to the bottom branches and repeat around the whole tree. Then, with the ribbon you’ve chosen, attach one end to the top trunk, and going from top to bottom, gather and tuck the ribbon in on every alternate wave of branches. Beautiful!

Step Three: Go Large!

Grab your bigger ornaments and set about placing them on the branch ends. A good rule of thumb is to work in a zigzag fashion because later you’ll be placing the smaller pieces in between. Remember to place some decorations closer to the trunk, which will create depth and interest.

Step Four: Top It All Off!

It’s now time to work on your tree topper – and this is your individual signature. You can go with the traditional star or angel, and that’s fine, but you can think out of the Christmas box too: Why not try a decorated top hat, a huge burlap or ribbon bow, or a mirror ball? The possibilities really are endless!

Step 5: Fillers (And We Don’t Mean Like Kardashian Lips!)

You’re almost there! Lastly, take all your smaller decorations and fill the gaps and tips of the branches with them. This is when you will also add your speciality items, like clip-on ornaments or family favourites in prominent positions.

AND YOU’RE DONE! Christmas comes but once a year – so following these tips will have you ready to make the most of the Yuletide season.

And that’s not all! Collect all 4 Cadbury Limited Edition Festive Baubles filled with your favourite treat-size Cadbury chocolates – they’re perfect for hanging on the tree and decorating your table. Although we can’t guarantee how long they will be there for – they’re irresistible!
