Thuso Mbedu Bags International Emmy Nomination

South African actress Thuso Mbedu has received her first International Emmy nomination, making her the only South African to be nominated at this year’s awards. The ceremony will take place this coming November on the 20th in New York. Mbedu is nominated in the ‘Best Performance by An Actress’ category and will be up against Brazil’s Adriana Esteves, Britain’s Anna Friel and Germany’s Sonja Gerhardt. The nominations which are spread across 18 countries were announced yesterday afternoon.

Thuso stole the hearts of many South African television viewers when she played the role of Kitso, a journalism graduate fresh out of varsity, on ETV’s Scandal. The 23-year-old has also appeared on Mzansi Magic’s drama-series Is’thunzi, MTV Base’ Shuga, and Saints & Sinners.
