The South African Music Awards celebrated their silver jubilee in Sun City this weekend where the very best of South Africa music was celebrated.

A series of six paired hosts took the audience through the 25 years of the SAMA with radio stars Bob Mabena and Melanie Bala recreating their TV partnership as they threw back to the 90s, Twasa of Lesedi FM and rapper Khuli Chana held it down for the 2000s while comedian Mpho Popps and actress/humanitarian Nomzamo Mbatha presented the 2010s.

As always, the awards saw some incredible live performances. Acts like Bongo Maffin, Trompies, Kelly Khumalo, Sjava, Ishamel, Rebecca Malope, Mlindo The Vocalist, Refentse, Sho Madjozi, Mobi Dixon and many more take the stage.

The award ceremony also celebrated the incredible achievement of the late Motswako hip hop proponent HHP, kwaito and guz pioneers TKZee and the iconic band Mango Groove – honouring them all with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Some of the nights big winners included newcomer Sho Madjozi, who took home the Newcomer of the Year and Female Artist of the Year, Sjava, who took home the prestigious Album of the Year and Best Afro Pop Album, Black Motion, who took home the Best Dance Album and Duo/Group of the Year.
