Metro FM listeners have been listening to drive-time host Mo Flava in the mornings after the station suspended, and subsequently fired, former breakfast host DJ Fresh after a complaint was laid with the BCCSA after the star used the word “msunery” in response to the listener’s comments on his show. The word is an adaptation of an isiZulu swear word and saw the star being pulled off air. After the DJ and station failed to come to an agreement going forward, DJ Fresh was sacked from his popular breakfast show and now, it seems Mo Flava is being bumped up to breakfast host for good.
According to Sunday World, one of the reasons the scales tipped in favour of Mo Flava was that the corporation’s bosses agreed that the breakfast show host must come from within the station instead of outside.
Insiders add that the station was impressed that Mo Flava was able to contain the loss of listeners on the show since DJ Fresh’s departure and seeing the positive response the public has had to temporary breakfast host cemented their decision to move him to the coveted breakfast slot.
“The instructions from management was that we should look inside … and we could not think of a better person than Mo Flava. He has done well so far and the listeners love him. He is going to present a brand new show,” a member of the Metro FM management team confirmed.
SABC spokesperson Vuyo Mthembu said they will make the announcement in due course. “We are grateful to the team that has held the fort during this period,” she said.
