Over the weekend, Sho Madjozi was the fourth South African to be featured on the popular global YouTube channel ‘Colors’ as she premiered an unreleased track titled ‘John Cena’ on the platform.
Naturally, the track had a massive reaction here in South Africa. The video trended at number one on the video platform and went on to receive over half a million views in just a few short days. Besides the view count, the channel is known to break up-and-coming artists and has previously featured acts like Billie Eilish, Sjava and Goldlink to name a few. Now, the new track continues to gain momentum, international audiences are struggling to overlook the talent that is Sho Madjozi.
Shortly after its release, one of the world’s game-changing rappers, Missy Elliott, replied with a string of fire emojis showing her support for Sho Madjozi’s eclectic approach to gqom, pop and hip-hop. The WWE also jumped on board the hype sharing a link to the star’s performance saying “You might not be able to see it, but you can certainly HEAR the newest song of the summer “John Cena” by South African rapper/songwriter @ShoMadjozi!”
But, the biggest surprise was that John Cena himself acknowledged the star. While he seems to be a man of few words, the star shared the cover of a recent issue of Successful Women where Sho Madjozi is the cover star.
Naturally, the rapper was overwhelmed by all the support. “I just love you guys because you are doing the most on a song that is literally from a performance video. The world is ours, trust me,” the star told her fans via social media.
