The first teaser for the movie, Oscar Pistorius: Blade Runner Killer emerged on Monday and sent shockwaves through the country.
In a statement issued on Monday evening, Reeva’s parents, June and Barry, said they were ‘horrified and upset’ to read reports that the story was told from Reeva and her mother’s perspective.
“June Steenkamp was not approached by Lifetime to participate, comment or be part of the making of the film, and did not give the producers any assistance. Any impression that is created that this is June’s view or that the movie is endorsed by the Steenkamp family, is untrue and incorrect,” read part of the statement.
The Steenkamps said that any claim made by the film’s producers stating otherwise was misleading. “The damaging and misleading claim which is made in a report by the leading trade newspaper Dateline Hollywood has not been denied by Lifetime,” added the statement.
The Steenkamps called on the CEO of A+E Networks, the company that Lifetime Films belongs to, to set the record straight on ‘disreputable’ statements that they have any involvement in the movie.
Oscar Pistorius: Blade Runner Killer is produced by Lifetime Films and is reportedly set to release in US cinemas on November 11. It has not yet been revealed when the movie will release in SA.
