Rami Chuene reveals why she never wore bikinis

Rami Chuene once hated her body so much that she refused to wear a bikini.

The actress took to Instagram to share a personal story about why she avoided showing her stomach.

“I used to hate my stretchmarks and didn’t wear bikinis at all. In fact, anything that would slightly show my tummy was a no-no. Even in my boldness I lost confidence, I became unsure and very unhappy,” she wrote.

Rami says that she eventually realised that she has one body and she needed to “love and honour it”.

“The day I accepted and embraced my stretchmarks is the day I realised I carried a body of art that tells a beautiful story. I walk in confidence and in love. Call me ‘Babes wa di stretchmarks mo ma side-ng’!

The 43-year-old wants women to know that they don’t have to live up to unrealistic beauty standards.

“Women are constantly required to reach unattainable beauty standards but there’s no need because YOU as a woman are THE ultimate beauty standard! Embrace your #trueself,” she concluded.

Rami has teamed up with Ackermans on the clothing brand’s “perfect fit” bra campaign.

Other stars featured in the campaign include Minki van der Westhuizen, Kim Jayde, Pearl Modiadie and Busiswa Gqulu.

Kim says that women constantly critique their bodies because they are constantly bombarded with images of the “perfect” body.

“I have always been insecure about my small bust, as if it made me less of a woman! I’m learning to love my body and be kind to it,” she wrote on Instagram.

Mom-of-three Minki van der Westhuizen says that she is excited to be part of an inspiring campaign while Pearl encouraged women to practise self-love during the month of love.

“Embrace who we truly are, AS WE ARE! Can we try that?”

Busiswa’s fans applauded her for proudly showing off her voluptuous figure.

She says that she enjoyed an “overwhelming response” to being part of the campaign.

“What an eye-opener. The truth is that I did it more for me than anyone else. I’m on a journey towards becoming my true self and all I see is that there are many women on a similar journey.”
