Make Green & Gold Your #BokFriday Dress Code

The Rugby World Cup starts at the end of September and the Springboks are well into their preparation for this massive tournament. Springbok captain Siya Kolisi has appealed to South Africans to throw their weight behind the Springboks by going big on #BokFriday. Kolisi appealed to supporters to wear their green and gold jerseys every Friday throughout the rugby season all the way up to and throughout the Springboks’ Rugby World Cup campaign.

“It’s that time of year again where we would like supporters to wear our green and gold colours to support the national team,” said Kolisi. “We launched our #StrongerTogether campaign 2 weeks ago, where we talked about the power of our nation and how when we are together, we are stronger. We would be really pleased if the public came out in their Springbok colours to show their support.”

The Springboks kicked off their international season in a huge way when they beat Australia 35-17 on Saturday in the Rugby Championship and went top of the log with a bonus point. On Saturday they will come up against New Zealand in Wellington and then they have 2 matches against Argentina in August. The second of those will be the team’s farewell Test on 17 August at Loftus Versfeld in an incoming Test match.

Siya Kolisi urged businesses (and schools on special days) to allow their staff (and pupils) to dress in their Springbok colours to help build national momentum and enthusiasm before the team’s send off to Japan later in September.

Coach Rassie Erasmus said that as much as their focus is on preparing and playing to win matches, the squad is attuned to the national sentiment and is lifted when they feel the nation behind them. “It’s lekker when we feel the country behind us,” said Erasmus. “The team can feed off the belief and the passion of the people. It’d be great if South Africans could show their team support for the team by wearing their Springbok jerseys every Friday.”

Fans can also have their selfies feature in the playing number of the jersey this year. It’s free, if you’re lucky in a random draw. Fans can register for the Faces On Numbers campaign by registering here.
