Happy Birthday, Mignon!

Proteas’ Women’s cricketer Mignon Du Preez is celebrating her 30th birthday today! We caught up with her to find out a bit more about the star player.

Q. What do you love most about cricket?


Cricket allows me to use my God-given talent to glorify God’s name whilst having fun.

Q. What is the funniest moment you have experienced on and/or off the cricket field?

In the Caribbean (Barbados) we had a team building day on a huge inflatable jungle gym (in the water) and Chloé Tryon wiped-out completely in the wrong direction.

Q. What are some of your greatest experiences in your cricket career so far?

Hitting a test hundred on my test debut.

Playing in the WBBL at the MCG.

Travelling the world and getting to experience different cultures.

Q. Tell us about the team spirit and the vibe in the Protea’s Women’s team?

We enjoy having a good time on and off the field, laughing with (and sometimes at) each other :), but ultimately it’s a place where teammates become your family away from home.

Q. How do you like to spend your free time?

I love travelling with my husband and spending some quality time at home with the family whilst having a braai.

Q. Which is your favourite cricket stadium in the world?

The MCG (abroad) and Newlands (in SA) with it’s beautiful scenery.

Q. Who is your favourite cricket player at the moment?

Virat Kohli

Q. Who is your favourite player in women’s cricket at the moment?

In South Africa it’s Dané van Niekerk, internationally it’s Suzie Bates.

Q. The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is happening at the moment. What are your predictions for the tournament? A) Which batsman do you think will score the most runs? Who will be the leading wicket-taker? Which team will win the trophy?

Batsman to score the highest runs – Virat Kohli, Joe Root or Steve Smith

Highest wicket-taking bowler – Rashid Khan (spinner), Kagiso Rabada or Jasprit Bumrah (seamers)

World Cup Winners – South Africa

Q. What are your goals for the season ahead?

To be a consistent run-scorer for all the teams I play for and making match-winning contributions. And WINNING the ICC WT20 in Australia early next year.
