One of the greatest cricketers of all time, Jacques Kallis, is celebrating his birthday today! To celebrate we take a look at some fun facts about the man.

  • In his 166 test matches, Jacques Kallis scored 13,289 runs at an average of 55.37. He took 292 test wickets with a bowling average of 32.65.
  • In his 325 ODIs, Kallis scored 11,574 runs and had an average of 45.13 and took 273 test wickets with a bowling average of 31.79.
  • In his 25 T20 International matches, Kallis scored 666 runs at an average of 35.05. He took 12 wickets with a bowling average of 27.75.
  • Jacques Kallis is one of only four batsmen in Test match history (after Sir Donald Bradman and before Mohammad Yousuf, Gautam Gambhir) to make a century in five consecutive test matches. He achieved this in the 2003/04 season.

  • Kallis attended Wynberg Boys’ High school. In 2009, the school named it’s cricket ground after Jacques Kallis.
  • Jacques Kallis was named the Player of the Tournament for South Africa’s title winning campaign in the 1998 ICC Champion’s Trophy.
  • In 2006, Kallis passed Sir Gary Sobers’ record of 8032 runs. In doing so he became the second player since Sir Gary Sober to have achieved the double of 8000 Test runs and 200 Test wickets.
  • During his 150th Test match, Kallis scored 224 runs against India – his highest test match score. This was his second double century in Test matches.

  • Jacques married his long-time girlfriend Charlene Engels in January 2019.
  • Kallis established The Jacques Kallis Scholarship Foundation in his benefit year (2005) with the aim of combining the academic and life skills programmes of existing school structures with funding and mentoring support from Jacques Kallis himself. The Foundation together with its partners hopes to provide talented youngsters with the opportunity to reach their full sporting and academic potential. Kallis, together with fellow South African celebrities and sportsmen, participates in annual fundraising events for his Foundation.
