Drama! Celeb designers who created Beyoncé’s Global Citizen look split

Popular fashion designers Quiteria and George have reportedly gone their separate ways.

Quiteria Kekana and George Malelu, the duo behind the label, have dressed several A-list stars including Beyoncé and Boity.

Rumours about a rift between the two gained momentum in April when they cancelled their appearance at African Fashion Week Cape Town.

Things have become messier since then. The Quiteria and George Instagram account was shut down allegedly for “re-branding” purposes.

“It’s the rebirth of Quiteria and George. We’re working on re-branding. It’s time for a change. We want people to connect to our stories and understand the brand aesthetic and the story behind it. We’re separating ourselves from how everyone else is branding themselves because they are now doing what we did,” they told Business Day when the page was deleted.

Quiteria has since started his own label and has been promoting his work under a separate account.

Judging by his posts, it seems that the designer has been planning his solo move as early as February.

George has so far been keeping a low profile.

Quiteria and George gained worldwide fame when Beyoncé wore one of their designs at the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 concert in Johannesburg last year.

The emerald green look was praised by fashion critics around the world.

There’s no word on what caused the drama between the talented duo.

Quiteria’s publicist Lerato Mpholo told Sowetan Live that they “parted on good terms”.

“It was a mutual separation between the duo. For them the partnership was no longer working. They wanted to develop their own personal brands,” she told the publication.

Quiteria’s most recent solo project was styling influencer Melody Molale for her Previdar cover.
