When we heard that the cast of Dear White People had had their contracts renewed for a second season on Netflix, we were thrilled. The script writing is tight, the acting is first class, and we’re convinced we have a few more seasons in the bag to look forward to.
Part of the reason that Mzansi audiences love the show that much has to be because the premise of the plot is – sadly – all too familiar. To quote the Netflix site, “Students of colour navigate the daily slights and slippery politics of life at an Ivy League college that’s not nearly as ‘post-racial’ as it thinks. Rivalries, romance, identity crises: College was already full of drama. Now this elite school is in for a real wake-up call.”
