One of the stars we believe you should keep an eye out for is – Candice Modiselle – she’s one of the celeb contestants on the first episode of Come Dine With Me SA, alongside Lucky Du Plessis, Christall and Gert-Johan Coetzee. Here she chats to us about being part of the cooking show and her plans for the rest of the year.
How did you find out about BBC’s interest to have you on the show?
BBC reached out to my agent who then got in contact with me about the potential of being on the show. I then spoke with my agent and the BBC team – there was a bit of back and forth to see if I even confidently qualified, I mean I barely consider myself a celebrity [laughs] – before everything just fell into place.
What are some of the things you look at before joining a show?
I always consider if the show encompasses a positive message. I pride myself in being relatable, so it makes a tremendous difference if the show presents strong audience engagement.
I ask myself if the show will allow me to embody the true essence of my character, without compromise and having to negotiate my character and my personality. It’s also important to check if the content speaks to my value systems and morals.
There are quite a number of things worth considering but I’m very uncompromising when it comes to these aspects. Come Dine With Me South Africa, without a question, ticked all the boxes.

What else do you have planned for this year?
I’m excited to immerse myself completely in online content creation which I’m in the process of cooking up at the moment. As far as my television endeavours, my character has grown tremendously on Generations The Legacy which is extremely exciting. It goes without saying that audiences can expect to see me on more television presenting programmes.

The year will not end without me returning to my true creative calling, theatre- writing, directing and choreographing works of my own. God willing, a few series characters are on the way and a film character is on the cards. But otherwise more philanthropic work, more teaching, more training, more workshops and concerted efforts to empower South Africa’s youth.
