Controversial author Jackie Phamotse has hit back at criminal charges laid against her by celebrity couple Basetsana and Romeo Kumalo over a tweet about a gay sex tape.
Jackie sent social media into a complete frenzy when she tweeted about there allegedly being a gay sex tape that implicates a media mogul’s husband with a young male celebrity.
Even though Jackie didn’t name anyone in her tweet, social media users threw Bassie and Romeo’s names into the fiasco.
The couple released a joint statement over the weekend, slamming the allegations and revealing that they had laid charges of crimen injuria against Jackie.
According to TshisaLIVE, Jackie is also seeking legal advice over the charges.
“My legal team is evaluating the legalities of their statement, we will respond when receive word from their legal team. We haven’t received anything at the current moment,” she said.
She told City Press that she was confused by the charges because she never named anyone in her tweet.
“I don’t know why they would open a case because I never named anyone in all my tweets, on any social media or in interviews. Other people may have, I didn’t. I can’t control other people’s social media. Why don’t they open cases against the people who named them and made memes about them?
“I never even retweeted anyone who did that. The police haven’t called me or anything. And why would she [Basetsana] assume it’s her, if they’ve got nothing to hide? Is she the only TV mogul in South Africa? I can think of a number – Carol Bouwer, Connie Ferguson, Harriet Gavshon, Patience Stevens, Desiree Markgraaff. They’re not opening cases,” Jackie said.
