Kriya Gangiah’s Mauritian Adventure

If you’ve been following Mela television presenter and radio host Kriya Gangiah on social media, you would have noticed that her timeline has been flooded with beautiful images from her recent trip to Mauritius. The star jetted off to the island paradise to attend the wedding of a close friend and fell in love with the destination all over again.

We get up close and personal with Kriya and find out why Mauritius is such a popular holiday destination with South Africans.

Why did you choose to travel to Mauritius on your recent trip?

This was my second trip to Mauritius and this time was for a friend’s wedding. Mauritius, for me, is the perfect destination to travel to if you are a South African. It gives you that international tropical feel but is only a three-hour flight from Johannesburg.

What surprised you the most about the island?

This time around we visited the south coast of the island and stayed in a Heritage Resort. One thing that really surprised me was the Heritage Golf Club, the home of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, the only co-sanctioned event by the European Tour, Sunshine Tour, and Asian Tour. It is honestly one of the most amazing golf courses I have ever seen and if you are a fan of the sport then this should definitely be on your bucket list.

What five things should you not leave Mauritius without doing?

Definitely do a catamaran tour with dolphin viewing. It gives you’re a really good feel for the beauty that Mauritius has to offer. If you can scuba dive, this is one the most amazing places to do so, if not snorkelling will definitely do the trick. Do as many water sports as possible. It will give you some time in the sun and get the blood pumping. Take a bike ride or a forest tour so that you get to see the areas around your resort while experiencing the nature of the island. Finally, use your time on the island to relax. Sit on the beach with a coconut in hand and just relax.

Why do you think Mauritius should be someone’s next travel destination?

The Mauritian people are some of the most hospitable people and they will ensure that you have the most amazing holiday. Plus, it is the perfect place to relax and just escape reality.

What else is on your travel bucket list?

Next up, I hope to see the French alps with a little skiing.
