Kelly Khumalo has apparently U-turned on playing the adult version of Lebo Mathosa in an upcoming biopic about her life.

A few weeks ago City Press reported that actress Bahumi Madisakwane was set to play the late singer when she was young, while Kelly would play an adult Lebo.

The Lebo Mathosa Story is a six-part docu-series, which is planned for release later this year, aims to give the nation an intimate glimpse into Lebo’s rise to stardom.

On Sunday, Kelly once again made headlines after City Press reported that she was no longer part of the series, allegedly because she was not getting paid what she had asked for.

The paper claimed that a source close to the production tipped them off about the latest development.

“She (Kelly) has been complaining to the producers about how unhappy she was with the money she was offered but I guess they failed to meet her demands. So this might be one of the reasons she left,” the source said.

The publication further stated that singer and actress KB Motsilanyane has apparently been roped in at the 11th hour.

Another source claimed that Kelly did not pull out but was allegedly shown the door for making difficult demands.

“She didn’t want to share her wardrobe and made everyone’s job difficult. They had to let her go,” the second source claimed.

Kelly’s management told the paper that they were not in a position to comment, but she would tell her side of the story when she was ready.

When news that Bahumi, who is also Somizi Mhlongo’s daughter, was cast as Lebo, social media did not seem impressed. Some social media users claimed that she was given the role because of her dad.

At the time, Somizi encouraged his daughter to stand tall and never second guess her achievements.
