Jethro Tait has been responsible for a string of bangers over the past two years. He teamed up with DJ Kent on the smash hit ‘The Words’, with Pascal & Pearce on ‘Running Wild’ and his solo singles ‘One For The Books (A.U.I)’ and ‘Burn Me’ also reached moderate success. Now, he’s back with a brand-new single titled ‘Who Are You’ – a song which shows off a softer side of the star.
The pop track is a beautiful mid-tempo ballad with a hint of power. Blending in acoustic, pop and R&B elements into the song, Jethro shows a more emotional side to his music and his voice. “‘Who Are You’ is a song about someone you love giving up on you and deciding you’re not worth their time. You end up questioning who you are and start to feel like maybe you deserved it. It’s about working through those feelings and realising that this person wasn’t who you thought they were.”
Lyrically, Jethro was suffering from a bad case of writer’s block while when he wrote the track back in January. He says he putting too much pressure on himself focusing on what people want to hear – and it took a toll on his creative process. So, he decided to jot down ideas and he started writing freely – and this song came about.
“I had a random few minutes in between things one day and picked up my guitar, making an effort to try clear my mind and not really think about it too much. The chords, chorus and lyrical outline for WHO ARE YOU came almost instantly. I knew it wasn’t a big anthemic song, but it made me feel something. When I listen to it now months later, I still get that feeling,” Jethro tells us.
