Janie Bay Drops Brand-New Afrikaans Single ‘Amper Daar’

After two hit Afrikaans collaborations with Hunter Kennedy and Jan Bloukaas last year, Janie Bay is back with a brand-new Afrikaans single today. The star drops ‘Amper Daar’ as the lead single off her upcoming Afrikaans album and continues to create a unique sonic space where she stands out amongst her peers.

‘Amper Daar’ is a song is about the real highs and lows of a relationship and the journey a couple takes when it comes to their love story. Janie wanted to express this message in the track’s official music video which sees her take a road trip with her love interest.

Sonically, Janie continues to build on the progressive pop sound she explored on her latest album ‘Miscellany’. Her approach isn’t the traditional approach Afrikaans pop artists take in their music and it’s helped Janie find a space where she is able to be her true self while pushing herself creatively and that exciting common ground is why her sound has identified with so many people.

“It’s a great time to experiment with your own vibe. I find that the world is far more open to different and diverse expressions,” Janie tells us. “One can be one`s own colorful self. It’s a time of new styles and interesting sounds, and I enjoy the freedom that it offers. We all have so much more to give than we initially realize. It’s great to see that more artists are daring to bring their unique imprints and flavors to the current music scene.”

While ‘Miscellany’ was a predominantly English record, Janie is excited at the prospect of releasing more Afrikaans music in the future. “I am currently writing in Afrikaans and it was a wonderful process for me to write and record this song. I am also working on a full-length album that will hopefully be introduced later this year,” she says.

Janie Bay’s ‘Amper Daar’ is the alternative pop song we never knew we needed.
