Today, Patricia Lewis lives a private life. She only gives an interview on a rare occasion and has left the glitz and the glamour of the entertainment industry for a sheltered life on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast. But just when we thought we may never see Patricia step back into the limelight, it seems that after a decade away, the star is preparing her comeback.
In a recent interview, the blonde bombshell admits that “Even here at the seaside, I couldn’t stay away from a microphone for long. Now this is my stage. Patricia is singing for the dolphins.”
But, in an exciting turn of events, the songstress has announced that she is finally ready to drop new music and has been working on a brand-new album which she hopes to release later this year. In fact, she’s even eyeing a return to the small screen!
“I’m making a comeback, baby. I’m finally ready for it – readier than I’ve ever been before,” Patricia says.
Patricia admits that she decided to step out of the limelight after suffering from fatigue and realising how important being there for her family is. But, it was when doctors found six polyps in her thyroid gland that Patricia eventually took the leap. “I was exhausted. For 30 years I’d lived every single dream. There had been times I just couldn’t carry on – my hair fell out, my skin broke out, my voice disappeared,” Patricia says. “I didn’t want to travel anymore and be away from home for weeks at a time. I wanted to be there for my mom, who has Alzheimer’s. I wanted to be a mom to Max – pick him up from school, help him with his homework. I needed to stand back and say, ‘I’m just going to be a woman – not Patricia Lewis’.”
So, Patricia and her family packed their bags and moved to the coast. “Johannesburg had become too hectic for us,” she admits. “There were so many hijackings, there was so much fear. My approach was this: I already had the fame and the glory, now it was simply a privilege to just be a mom.”
After taking a much-deserved break from the spotlight, Patricia is finally at that space where she is ready to make her comeback. Her son Max is in Grade 10 this year and her household feels settled. “I thought about it for a long time, especially about the things I don’t want to do. I don’t want to burn out again, and I don’t want to be constantly travelling. I want to be selective about my next projects, such as a new album filled with the songs I grew up with,” Patricia says.
So, as she gets ready to make her way back into the entertainment industry, fans can officially get ready to see Patricia back on TV while rocking out to some new music in the next few months.
