Zendaya unveils vintage inspired Calvin Klein collaboration

Singer and actress Zendaya is showing off her highly-anticipated collaboration with Calvin Klein in a retro photo shoot.

The Greatest Showman star serves as the label’s latest global women’s ambassador, and on Tuesday (19Feb19) she unveiled a stunning series of promotional shots, inspired by zodiac signs, as well as the 70s and 80s.

The line marks the first capsule collection between the Spider-Man: Homecoming beauty and Klein, TommyXZendaya, which was announced last year (18). The pieces contain colourful prints and stripes that recall the looks worn by style icons from back in the day, including Diana Ross, Farrah Fawcett, and Grace Jones.

“The most important thing to me is that these clothes feel timeless, and whoever puts it on feels powerful and confident (sic),” Zendaya said in a statement, noting the campaign celebrates “strong, iconic women”.

“Zendaya is an inspirational role model for her fans around the world, as she shines a spotlight on body positivity and diversity,” Hilfiger added.

The 22 year old teamed with her stylist, Law Roach, for the capsule, which features vintage nightlife-inspired dresses and high-waisted pants. The items also cater to a variety of body types, ranging from sizes four to 24.

The development process served as a learning experience for Zendaya, who oversaw the clothing from concept to production.

“I’ve learned about what it really takes to make a garment,” she tells Vogue. “Even something as simple as a plain white tee takes so much more time, people and energy than you’d think, and every job is crucial.”

The full line will be showcased in Paris, France on 2 March (19) and be available for purchase following the event.
