Zendaya is a vocal critic of photo retouching and refuses to have any of her images edited on shoots.
The Spider-Man: Far From Home star has become a style sensation thanks to her fearless choices on the red carpet and partnership with celebrity stylist Law Roach, and also launched her debut TommyNow collaboration with American designer Tommy Hilfiger earlier this year.
While Zendaya wears little to no make-up when off-duty – and is a dedicated user of sunscreen – she is a staunch critic of retouching any images to fit in with archaic and unreachable beauty standards.
“I’m in a place in my life where I can say no. It’s one thing to get rid of a pimple, and another to completely change someone’s face,” she told Elle.com. “For me, it’s about how to be in control of that situation.”
Zendaya was recently named as the latest ambassador for luxury French perfume and cosmetics brand Lancome, and became the face of the label’s new fragrance, Idole, following in the footsteps of Julia Roberts, Isabella Rossellini, and Penelope Cruz.
And the former Disney Channel star is excited to expand her career into fashion and beauty.
“I’m coming into a new phase in my career, my adulthood, womanhood, and maturity. I’m stepping on to a new level and it felt like working with Lancome was the perfect way to show that,” the 22-year-old shared.
Transitioning from a Hollywood child star into a big-screen movie star can be difficult for some, but Zendaya, who went from TV show Shake It Up to leading roles in Spider-Man: Homecoming and The Greatest Showman, has a sensible approach to fame.
“I knew everybody would be like, ‘This is going to be tough for you. It’s going to be hard.’ And I was like, ‘No, you just chill and grow and it will be OK.’ I’ve just been living without applying any pressure, just going step by step,'” she added.
