Sharon Tate’s wedding dress among designer outfits up for auction

The silk mini dress tragic actress Sharon Tate wore when she and Roman Polanski exchanged vows in 1968 is to be auctioned.

The item will be one of several dresses from Tate’s collection of designer outfits to go under the hammer at a Julien’s Auctions sale in November (18), with high bids expected.

Interest in The Valley of the Dolls star has spiked as the 50th anniversary of her gruesome death at the hands of cult members in late killer Charles Manson’s The Family looms – pregnant Tate was stabbed to death at her Benedict Canyon home in Beverly Hills in August, 1969.

Quentin Tarantino is making one of a handful of films surrounding Tate’s death, in which Leonardo DiCaprio will portray the actress’ neighbour.

Other macabre items up for grabs at the 17 November (18) auction include a chocolate silk dress Tate wore while being interviewed on the 1968 documentary The New Cinema; a black floral lace Christian Dior mini-dress she donned for the London premiere of Polanski’s 1966 film Cul-de-Sac; the chocolate sheer silk Alba gown she wore to the Golden Globe Awards with Polanski, and a two-toned jersey mini dress she wore while attending the Cannes Film Festival in 1968, as well as her chocolate mink swing coat designed by Fuhrman’s Beverly Hills “with asymmetrical collar and fur puffs for buttons”.

Items from Tate’s makeup collection, including Revlon eyeliners in black and in white and a Maybelline eyebrow pencil, will also be going under the hammer, along with personal keepsakes and even monogrammed luggage that were a gift from her husband.
