Sarah Hyland dyes hair dark red during lockdown

Sarah Hyland has dyed her hair red during the coronavirus lockdown.

The Modern Family actress revealed to her Instagram followers on Tuesday that she had decided to experiment with a new hue while in quarantine.

“‘I wanna be where the people are…’ #QuaranTINT crew (I did this all by myself! Very proud),” she wrote beside a series of selfies showing off her bold new locks.

Her makeover received many comments from celebrities, with Vanessa Hudgens and Debby Ryan praising the transformation, and Gossip Girl’s Michelle Trachtenberg writing, “Omfg (oh my f**king God). Should I do this?! What day is it?! You look better than a New York pretzel from a shady cart in front @metmuseum @sarahhyland.”

Sarah responded by writing, “@michelletrachtenberg god damn. That sounds so good right now (crying with laughter emoji).”

On her Instagram Stories, the 29-year-old told her followers her hair was “supposed to be pink” and revealed that it was a temporary dye, with her adding: “Please don’t bleach your own hair at home. That scares me.”

Earlier this month, Sarah, who has had two kidney transplants, teamed up with Rooted Rituals to promote their haircare products and donate $10,000 (£8,000) to Feeding America, a non-profit organisation which supports food banks across the U.S.

“As a transplant patient, I’ve suffered side effects like hair loss, but these products can change the game,” she wrote on Instagram. “I love using their Cooling and Strengthening Tonic with their Scalp Massager (literally can’t put it down), it stimulates circulation and helps me have a healthy scalp. The BEST part of this partnership is that Rooted Rituals and I are donating $10,000 to @FeedingAmerica to help during this pandemic.”
