Rihanna’s Fenty fashion brand scooped the Urban Luxe prize at The Fashion Awards 2019 on Monday night.
The superstar launched her fashion venture in partnership with executives at luxury group Moet Hennessy – Louis Vuitton (LVMH) in May, with the line comprised of wearable separates, denim, accessories, and footwear.
Now, just seven months after unveiling her debut collection, Rihanna has been named as the top designer in the competition’s Urban Luxe category, beating out the likes of Alyx, Marine Serre, Martine Rose, and Moncler Genius.
The 31-year-old was presented with the award by Janet Jackson and Tyler, The Creator during a ceremony held at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Taking to Instagram following the exciting announcement, a Fenty representative commented that Rihanna and her entire team felt “honoured” by the accolade.
“Fenty’s chief executive officer and artistic director Robyn Rihanna Fenty is committed to reflect the understanding of female power as constantly evolving, multi-faceted, fun and free,” they wrote alongside a snap of the star in a seafoam green custom-made outfit from the label. “Since the launch in May, Fenty had the pleasure of working with incredible talents, forming a new archive of visual references focusing on the intersection between style, culture and identity. Fenty is a young brand with a powerful collective voice, shaped by the individuals behind it.”
The other big winners on the night were Bottega Veneta’s Daniel Lee, who was named Designer of the Year, British Designer of the Year for Womenswear, and Accessories Designer of the Year, while the Italian label was also feted Brand of the Year. Adut Akech was selected as Model of the Year, Dior Men’s Kim Jones won British Designer of the Year for Menswear, and Christopher Kane was bestowed with the new Designers’ Designer Award.
