Rihanna is reportedly developing her own high-end fashion line.
The Barbadian singer/actress has branched out into the fashion and beauty worlds in recent years, finding success with her inclusive lingerie line Savage x Fenty, as unveiled at New York Fashion Week last September (18), and her Fenty Beauty cosmetics range, which has been praised for catering to a diverse range of skin colours.
Now, according to editors at WWD, Rihanna is in talks with executives at luxury conglomerate Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH) to create a clothing collection.
“LVMH has already handpicked a clutch of employees from within, including some from Louis Vuitton and Celine, to work on the project in tandem with Rihanna and some of her key associates,” the fashion publication reported on Thursday (17Jan19).
It was also claimed that the 30-year-old has been involved in “secret discussions” about the potential partnership for many months, with one source commenting that the line will include ready-to-wear, leather goods and accessories, and is likely to be released around the same time of her ninth studio record, reportedly titled R9, later on in 2019.
Bosses at LVMH have declined to comment on WWD’s report. Though should the deal go-ahead, it will mark the first new brand under the luxury group’s umbrella since the Christian Lacroix house was founded in the late 1980s.
Rihanna is no stranger to working with LVMH’s labels, having previously acted as the face of Dior in 2015.
She has also collaborated with numerous other labels over the years, including luxury footwear company Manolo Blahnik, U.K. retailer River Island, and sportswear giant Puma, for which she created the highly popular Fenty x Puma line of apparel and shoes.
