Penelope Cruz is encouraged by the fashion houses who have pledged to go fur-free in recent months.
The Spanish actress has forged relationships with some of the biggest labels in the world, most recently working with Karl Lagerfeld to front Chanel’s latest cruise campaign. And as executives at the French luxury brand recently deciding no longer to use fur or exotic animal skins in products, Penelope is pleased to see the industry becoming more ethical.
“Well, I am actually very happy about that,” she told reporters at Mail Online at The Fashion Awards 2018 on Monday night (10Dec18). “It’s great news. I just collaborated with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and I don’t wear fur. I’ve never enjoyed that, and I’m so happy that so many designers are coming into that list of not doing it. I think it’s not necessary.”
Coach, Gucci, and Versace are just a few of the other brands that have opted to banish fur from their designs.
The actress was one of the many stylish guests to attend the glitzy ceremony at London’s Royal Albert Hall, and even joined supermodel Kate Moss to present the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator to photography duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. The event was held in partnership with Swarovski – a brand Penelope has recently worked with on a jewellery collection.
And the Vicky Cristina Barcelona star believes the luxury label is a great example of how sustainability and style can work hand in hand.
“They are like a huge example of sustainability and a different way of doing things,” she explained. “They do these man-created diamonds – they’re not from a mine – and they have the same value. I think it’s really important to find different ways. I think the future will go more and more in that direction.”
