Melissa McCarthy will be honoured with the Distinguished Artisan Award at the Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards next month (Feb19).
The Bridesmaids star will be the first woman to receive the accolade on 16 February (19) at Novo in Los Angeles.
“It is with respect and joy that we are able to honour Melissa McCarthy, a true friend to our crafts of make-up artistry and hair styling,” Sue Cabral-Ebert, the local president of the IATSE union, says. “Melissa collaborates with our creative artisans in every character she develops, whether it’s the SNL (Saturday Night Live) parody of (former White House Communications Director) Sean Spicer or the true-to-life author Lee Israel (in her new film Can You Ever Forgive Me?). We want to let Melissa know how greatly she is appreciated, she is so deserving of this award.”
Previous recipients of the accolade include Gary Oldman, Johnny Depp, Ryan Murphy, and Guillermo del Toro.
Melissa’s honour comes just a few months after she became the first person to receive the People’s Icon award at the E! People’s Choice Awards in November (18). The 48 year old was feted for her TV and film career and in their statement, awards bosses praised the actress for her work.
“Melissa McCarthy is a multi-talented actor, writer, producer and director and who has starred in some of the most iconic movies and television shows of the past decade,” Jen Neal, executive producer of live events and executive vice president of marketing at E!, said. “She is beloved by the people, and we couldn’t think of anyone more fitting or deserving to honour as the People’s Icon of 2018.”
Ironically, news of her latest award comes a day after McCarthy revealed she was once quizzed by a junket reporter about why she looks so “grotesque” in her films.
