Maria Menounos wept when she tried on princess-style wedding gown

Maria Menounos started crying when she tried on her wedding gown for the first time.

The actress and TV host wed her partner of 19 years, Keven Undergaro, in New York’s Times Square on New Year’s Eve (31Dec17), in a ceremony officiated by Steve Harvey and broadcasted on live TV.

For her special day, Maria opted for a white lace dress with a sweetheart neckline and mermaid silhouette from Pronovias – a design she instantly fell in love with.

“It took my breath away. When I started crying, I was like, ‘This is clearly the dress,'” she told People. “The cameraman who doesn’t even know me, cried. It was such a moment.”

After deciding to get married during the New Year’s Eve festivities, Maria started searching for dress ideas on Pinterest. While the star tends to sport figure-hugging ensembles and gowns when she hits the red carpet, she knew she wanted something more traditional, and didn’t allow Keven to see the ensemble before the nuptials.

“It’s so not me to be so girly and princess-y or maybe it was me and it was just so repressed,” the 39-year-old shared. “That’s probably the truth.”

Getting married in front of the crowds was quite the spectacle, and while Maria was thrilled with the outcome she admitted that getting ready backstage wasn’t too glamorous. In addition to trying to keep warm in the icy temperatures, she had to get dressed in an unusual environment.

“I had to think production-wise, I may have one or two minutes to get into this thing (on), I’m getting dressed in a storage container in Times Square in the freezing cold,” she smiled.

The wedding marks a fresh start for the former E! News host, who had a difficult year in 2017, having undergone a seven-hour surgery in June to remove a golf ball-sized meningioma brain tumour that was affecting her facial nerves.
