Kit Harington has admitted he still hasn’t seen the final season of Game of Thrones.
The hit HBO series scooped the Outstanding Drama Series prize at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night. But while speaking to press alongside his co-stars after they collected the award, the actor confessed he’s still not got round to watching the celebrated show.
“I still haven’t seen the show,” Kit, 32, quipped when asked about the controversy surrounding the fantasy drama’s eighth and final season, according to Entertainment Tonight. “So that’s how I dealt with that controversy. I haven’t seen the final season.
“But I know what it took to shoot it. And it was hard and everyone put their love and effort into it. And controversy – I think for us, we knew what we were doing was right, story-wise. And we knew that it was right for the characters because we lived with them for 10 years.
“So controversy for us didn’t really affect us.”
As the final season aired, some fans reacted furiously to the direction of the show, and started a Change.org petition after the penultimate episode aired urging HBO executives to remake the series.
The final instalment was not based on author George R.R. Martin’s popular novels.
Despite the backlash, the show had a successful evening at the prestigious ceremony, as the cast reunited to celebrate the show tying the record for most wins in the Outstanding Drama Series category with AMC’s Mad Men. Actor Peter Dinklage also took home the prize for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
