Keira Knightley is adamant that a statement lip is the best way to boost self-esteem.
The British actress has garnered a reputation for her signature pout and glamorous Hollywood aesthetic, and has also worked with Chanel’s beauty department for over a decade, having been tapped as the face of the brand’s Coco Mademoiselle fragrance in 2006.
Accordingly, in a video filmed for Harper’s Bazaar U.K. to accompany her cover shoot for its December issue, Keira was happy to share some of her biggest beauty tips.
“How does make-up help your confidence and self-esteem? I think if you’re having a really bad day then it’s always nice to put a really bright lipstick on,” the 33-year-old suggested. “(As for) applying lipstick flawlessly, always use a Chanel lipstick, obviously.”
It’s no surprise that Coco Mademoiselle is still Keira’s signature fragrance, and she sprays it “multiple times” throughout the day in order to maintain a long-lasting scent.
She added that “lots of black eyeliner” is the ultimate beauty tip she picked up from her mother, and advises drinking lots of water to ensure skin stays clear during travelling periods.
The star’s most recent film, Disney’s The Nutcracker & the Four Realms, saw her try out a new look to play the Sugar Plum Fairy in a glitzy pink dress with matching pastel pink hair.
Though Keira looked very pretty in the part, the hairstyle could have been a disaster if they stuck to the original plan and used cotton candy to make the wig.
“We did actually try with real cotton candy but then I had a lot of bees and wasps and flies following me and we decided that’s a really bad idea,” she smiled during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “It would also melt under the lights, but it was quite fun trying – but quite a good idea not to keep it like that.”
