Katie Holmes’ hairstylist gives lowdown on her new pixie crop
Katie Holmes’ stylist was determined her new haircut would be both feminine and edgy.
The 38-year-old actress recently underwent a drastic chop, transforming her mid-length brown tresses into a cool pixie crop, which she unveiled at the FAO Schwarz event in New York on Tuesday night (24Oct17).
“It’s for a role. I’m getting ready to play a woman in a movie called The Doorman,” she gushed to People.com at the bash. “She’s an ex-Marine and she’s a warrior. I’m excited. I’m training. I’m sore.”
Hairdresser DJ Quintero, whose clientele also features the likes of Maggie Gyllenhaal and Sofia Vergara, is the man behind Katie’s new look. And he had a very specific concept in mind when it came to lopping off the star’s signature brunette tresses.
“We were trying to find a balance between something feminine but kicka*s ‘cause she’s working really hard – her body looks incredible,” the hair expert explained. “She really wanted it to move on camera so it was actually like three haircuts. We did it over the weekend and it kind got shorter and shorter and shorter.”
DJ and Katie have worked together on a number of occasions in the past, and he most recently gave her ‘70s-style locks for an appearance at Ralph Lauren’s fashion show in the Big Apple, with the hairstyle complementing her vintage-style outfit.
The Logan Lucky actress has also shared her admiration and affection for DJ on social media, previously uploading a sweet snap of herself sitting in a chair while he stands next to her.
“Love you @djquintero #hairchair,” she captioned the picture, along with a love heart emoji.
Katie previously experimented with short hair back in 2008, when she debuted a long bob or ‘lob’ style.
The Doorman, about a woman who returns from combat and befriends a family targeted by thieves, is due to hit cinemas in 2018.
