Julianne Moore avoids sun at all costs to prevent skin ageing

Julianne Moore swears the secret to keeping her skin in tip-top condition is avoiding the sun.

The actress always makes sure her porcelain skin and red hair are protected from damaging UV rays by staying in the shade, especially as her mother was badly sunburned as a child.

“My mother is from Scotland, she had red hair and freckles and she moved to America when she was 10 years old. She got a terrible burn when she was a teenager and she had to go to the hospital. As a result, she was like, ‘Don’t go into the sun, don’t do it,'” she told British Vogue. “If we went to the beach during the day we’d only be out for a short period of time. I avoid the sun, not in a weird way, but I’ll cross over to the shaded side of the street and I’ll always wear a hat, I’ll always wear sunscreen. It really does pay off.”

Elsewhere in the interview, the Oscar-winning star shared her favourite fashion pieces and declared her love for a pair of trusty Birkenstock sandals.

“I like to have a really great pair of jeans. A Saint Laurent army jacket and then a really good pair of Birkenstocks. Right now, they’re my favourite. If I go on trips or if I go somewhere, I always have them with me. This outfit makes me feel good, like myself,” the 58-year-old explained.

Julianne also opened up on her biggest fashion mistake, which occurred when she attended the Golden Globes back in 1998 after being nominated for her role in Boogie Nights, a mere six weeks after giving birth to her first child, son Caleb.

“I wasn’t my usual size because I hadn’t lost the baby weight obviously – and I was in this very shiny, satin dress and it was very low cut, which was really a mistake because I was nursing,” she candidly shared.
