Jessica Chastain hated her red hair growing up

Jessica Chastain’s mother wouldn’t let her dye her red hair blonde as a youngster.

The Oscar-nominated actress is synonymous with her flame coloured locks, and oozes confidence when she walks the red carpet. That wasn’t always the case though, and Jessica admits to feeling like an outsider growing up because of her looks.

“I didn’t like looking different,” she admitted to The Edit. “Being a redhead, you can’t fit into the group. I wanted to be blond so bad.

“I had really bad self-esteem and I asked my mom if I could dye my hair but she wouldn’t let me.”

She also resented her pale skin, had to wear braces and hated her freckles growing up. The Zero Dark Thirty actress now embraces her natural beauty, and even called her production company, set up earlier this year (16), Freckle Films.

Jessica suffered with acne as a teenager as well, and after taking powerful medication to get rid of it, the 39-year-old now credits her vegan lifestyle with helping keep her skin clear.

“So much comes down to the food you eat and I eat a very clean diet,” she shared. “Being vegan has made a huge difference in my life.”

She loves SK-II’s sheet masks too, which make her look like “Jason from Halloween.

As for cosmetic surgery, Jessica’s attitude is never say never.

“Who knows? When I’m 50 or 60, I might. Some people think I’ve had a nose job. I’ve never had anything like that done, but I have no judgement of anyone that does,” she smiled.
