Jaden Smith serving up meatless Umami burgers for hurricane relief
Actor Jaden Smith has partnered with bosses at Umami Burger to help raise funds for hurricane relief.
The Pursuit of Happyness star is serving up three new vegetarian sliders as part of his Jaden’s Impossible Trio dish to diners at the U.S. restaurant chain.
The sliders, which are made from Impossible Foods’ plant-based patties, are selling for $15 (£11) per plate, with $1 (£0.75) from each order going to benefit American Red Cross storm rebuilding efforts following the devastation of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria over the past two months.
The first of Jaden’s dishes, the Impossible slider, embodies classic Americana with a twist – the mini burger is made with American cheese, miso-mustard, dill pickles, lettuce, tomato and topped off with Umami’s signature house spread. His Korean BBQ slider is another plant-based patty infused with East Asian toppings such as gochujang glaze, caramelised kimchi, sesame aioli, scallion-cilantro salad and Korean ketchup, while the U-BBQ slider is reminiscent of a classic summer barbecue, with American cheese and Umami BBQ sauce jazzed up by more exotic elements, such as tempura serrano and smoked salt onion strings.
Diners can wash down the burgers with a bottle of Jaden’s JUST Water beverage, which is an ethically sourced, produced and packaged brand of spring water.
Jaden’s Impossible Trio sliders became available at over 20 Umami Burger locations on Thursday (12Oct17) and his JUST Water bottles will be sold at the restaurant chain until 31 December (17).
