The X-Men star, who has been married to his wife Deborra-Lee Furness, 60, for nearly 20 years, revealed his top tip during a live interview with Australian morning show Sunrise on Wednesday (30Mar16).
When asked if there was a slogan he lived his life by, the action man admitted how important it is to prioritise his wife’s happiness above all else.
“The most important one, is drummed into me everyday. Happy wife, happy life. That’s the slogan. We’re about to celebrate our 20th (anniversary),” he beamed.
Hugh, 47, also admitted how important it is to cast self doubt aside and “have a go” in life.
Actor Hugh has long expressed his adoration for wife, actress Deborra-Lee. The pair met on the set of Australian TV show Correlli in 1995, and they married a year later.
After suffering a series of miscarriages, the couple adopted two children, son Oscar, now 15 and daughter Ava, now 10.
“It gets better and better, I can honestly say that,” said Hugh during an episode of the Ellen DeGeneres Show earlier this year (16). “She’s the greatest thing that ever happened to me.”
Though the couple are both actors Deborra-Lee has remained working in their native Australia, while Hugh’s career really took off in Hollywood after his breakthrough role as Wolverine in the first X-Men movie in 2000.
“I’m kind of really grateful that I met her before anything kind of happened,” he told Ellen. “Everything that’s happened in my career and onscreen, offscreen, we’ve always done it together.”
The family man appears to live up to his word, having spent Easter weekend (26-27Mar16) on an outing to Bondi Beach with the Jackman clan, he proved his off-screen hero credentials when he was filmed rescuing swimmers from a dangerous riptide current.
