Emma Stone “never felt more beautiful” than when she played Billie Jean King in a movie.
The Oscar-winning actress portrayed the tennis ace in 2017’s Battle of the Sexes, and in a new interview with Vogue.com, confessed that training for the movie transformed her body and her self-confidence.
“That role required me to get physically strong. I’ve never felt more beautiful or powerful than I did when I felt strong and capable in my body,” the La La Land star explained. “It was an incredible experience and one I take with me daily.”
She went on to explain that while she’s not diligently kept up with the training, feeling strong helped change her perception of beauty.
“Admittedly, I’m a hell of a lot weaker than I was then, but it reinforced the truth that beauty comes from how you feel, not how you look. People looking aesthetically pleasing, which is entirely subjective anyway, is just a bonus,” she added.
Emma, who currently serves as the face of Louis Vuitton’s fragrance campaigns, then shared how perfume helps her get into character.
“I’ve been using fragrance to help me define each character I’ve played since I was 16. Even now, I can smell that scent and be taken straight back,” the 31-year-old shared. “Scent has always been the quickest sense-memory for me. I remember most of the time periods in my life through scent.”
