Ellie Goulding has become more relaxed about diet and fitness

Ellie Goulding is no longer so hard on herself when it comes to diet and exercise.

The 33-year-old used to have a “really bad relationship” with fitness and food as she would be super strict about maintaining an intense workout routine and healthy diet and then punish herself if she didn’t complete an exercise session every day or ate bad snacks.

But in an interview with U.K. Glamour magazine, the Burn hitmaker admitted that she has relaxed her mindset nowadays and can alter her plans depending on how she’s feeling.

“I think a difference now with me and my body is that because I’m in a happy place, I feel like I don’t need to do 10 mile runs every day, which would then cause me to go and eat loads, which would then cause me to go and run 10 miles, again,” she shared. “It was just a vicious circle of really bad relationships with fitness and food. But right now, I’m just a lot easier on myself and I say to myself, if I’ve eaten like c**p then sure I’ll do a longer workout. If I’m tired and haven’t slept well, like last night I went to bed at 4am because I just couldn’t sleep, today, I will just do a really slow jog and some weights.”

The British star went on to confess she had an “unhealthy” relationship with food because she was “so desperate for control and routine” and has tried every diet out there, including veganism.

“I also was really against eating meat and then I was vegan, but I wasn’t a good vegan. I think I’ve done every type of diet there is. I’ve never been obsessed with being as thin as possible, as I truly think to be strong is the most incredible thing ever for a woman,” Ellie added.

The Starry Eyed singer recently caused controversy online after she revealed that she embarks on a 40-hour fast every week.
