Diane Kruger invests in sentimental jewellery pieces
Diane Kruger has become something of a “jewellery maximalist” in recent years.
The gorgeous German star looked radiant wearing Cartier diamond earrings and a red chiffon Giambattista Valli gown to a recent black-tie dinner hosted by the famous jewellery label in New York.
Joking that she was hoping to keep the Panthere earrings she was wearing, actress Diane opened up about her jewellery-buying habits.
“The older I get, the more I consider myself a jewellery maximalist,” the 41-year-old told The Hollywood Reporter. “I never wore any jewellery when I was in my 20s, but in the last 10 years I have enjoyed buying things for myself.
“For me, jewellery is sentimental: You don’t buy it because it’s fashionable; you buy it and wear it because it connects you to a memory.”
Also at the bash, which celebrated Cartier’s new Resonances de Cartier collection, was model Carolyn Murphy and actresses Carey Mulligan and Sofia Boutella.
Atomic Blonde star Sofia confessed that she hadn’t had any experience wearing such high-end pieces before donning a Cartier necklace, made up of a diamond embellished medallion on an 18-karat white gold chain.
“Every part of this is new for me,” she smiled. “I’ve never worn high jewellery before, but I’ve also never taken a boat from Manhattan before, either. Everything feels like a surprise tonight.”
The event was held on Governors Island in New York Harbour.
Designer Jason Wu was also in attendance, telling the publication he was a sucker for sparkles.
“I love anything that sparkles,” he grinned. “When it comes to big diamonds, I can’t look away.”
